How Annual Funds Are Used

Annual gifts make an immediate and important difference at Tufts. All the university’s schools and campuses depend on unrestricted annual giving for meeting areas of greatest need. These gifts support priorities including:

  • Financial aid
  • Faculty development
  • Innovative curriculum
  • Library resources
  • Technology enhancements
  • Buildings and infrastructure

In fiscal year 2008, alumni, parents, and friends endorsed Tufts' direction and initiatives with generous annual gifts. Giving highlights:

  • Tufts donors contributed $15.9 million in annual fund gifts, topping the previous fiscal year's total by 2%
  • A record $7.4 million in annual gifts was received by the Tufts Fund for Arts, Sciences & Engineering
  • AS&E reunion classes generated over $1.5 million of the Tufts Fund total
  • The Cummings Veterinary Fund succeeded in raising almost $1.5 million in gifts from over 7,000 individuals, including veterinary hospital clients, alumni, friends, and parents
  • The Fletcher Fund raised more than $1.35 million, in addition to over $5.7 million toward the capital fund for endowment
  • The Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy raised close to $400,000 from over 2,000 alumni, parents, and friends
  • The Dental School raised almost $1.4 million for its highest priorities through the Annual Fund
  • The Fund for Tufts Medicine has raised almost $2 million for the second consecutive year
